Sue Jones

Doris Jeanne ‘Sue Anne – Sissy’ Setters Jones, 82, a retired GTE/Verizon specialist, went home to be with our Lord on May 13, 2016 after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was at home surrounded by her loved ones. Memorial service is at 1:30 pm on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, Texas. If desired, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Food Pantry of Bridgeport or the charity of your choice. Sue was born July 30, 1933 in Ottawa, Kansas. She attended high school in Liberal, Kansas, and graduated with the class of 1951. She moved to Brownwood, Texas in 1952, to Hurst, Texas in 1964, and finally to Bridgeport in 1989. Sue was the daughter of the late Charles William and Elva Doris (Baldwin) Setters. Sue married her soulmate Wilbur Monroe ‘Bill’ Jones on April 8, 1961 in Brownwood. She and Bill were dedicated members for many years of the Methodist Church, and served in many capacities. She was an active member of the Eastern Star and the American Business Woman’s Assn. She worked for GTE/Verizon for 35 years and was the first woman to work on the mainframe in the central office, which opened many career doors. She retired in 1989 to Bridgeport. She enjoyed working in her yard, growing roses, fishing, and cooking for family gatherings at Easter, 4th of July and Christmas. She loved her pets like little people. She was active in many worthwhile organizations following retirement and most of all loved time with her precious Bill. She was preceded in death by husband Bill, his parents Kyle Monroe and Viola Charlotte Jones, brothers Charles William ‘Bill’ Setters, and Allen Robert ‘Bobby’ Setters, and her sisters-in-law Darlene Rhoten and Pat Jones.
