Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Visitation will be held 6 – 8pm Tuesday, April 18, also at the church. Dr. Bill Hughes and Pastor William Brooks will officiate. Stan passed away at home, peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 13, 2023, in Decatur, Texas.
Pallbearers will include Johnny Wall, John Stockton, Terry Hand, Cliff Oates, Brad Tedrow, Augustine Ochoa, and Charles Harris. Honorary pallbearers include Monty Reed, Scotty Reed, and Sammie Byrd.
Stan was born August 27, 1940, in Littlefield, Texas, to Ellis and Reedamay Neil (Murray) Kemp. He attended Decatur High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Stan married the love of his life, Bonnie Ruth (Bisidas) Kemp, on January 8, 1960, in Decatur, Texas, and was happily married for 63 years. He retired from Merchant Motor Lines in Fort Worth, Texas, after 21 years of faithful service, and became the founder, and former owner, of Kemps Wrecker Service in Decatur, Texas. After retiring a second time, he devoted his time to mowing pastures for friends and local businesses. Stan is, perhaps, best described as a kind, godly, giving man who was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a Sunday school teacher and deacon in his younger years, and later became trustee and member of Grace Baptist Church in Decatur, Texas. Stan was also well known for his passion for antique cars and attending car shows. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Bonnie Ruth Bisidas Kemp; daughter Donna Leake and husband Joe; son Toney Kemp and wife Leah; sisters Wylda Kemp, Wyvonne Lipsey, Maudene
(Deanie) Adams; grandchildren Jeremy Davis and wife Julie, Sara Oates and husband Steven, Danny Leake and wife Claire, Bryn Vincent and husband Dylan, Megan Silva and husband Omar, Jordan Tatsak and husband Tommy; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flower, the family request donations be made to Grace Baptist Church.
