Roy E. Tackel, a native of Bridgeport, passed away in Decatur on Friday, November 1, 2013 at the age of 85. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. David Rucker.
Roy was born November 18, 1927 in Bridgeport to Albert E. and Bertie (Anderson) Tackel. After graduation from Bridgeport High School, Roy went to work for General Dynamics in Fort Worth for 9 years before joining Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America, where he worked until retirement. He was a member of the Decatur National Guard for 7-1/2 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in both Bridgeport and Chico.
His hobbies included raising cattle. In fact, he raised the 1996 Dallas State Fair Grand Champion Steer.
He received the Golden Trowel award for exceptional service by fellow Masons, and was a member of the Grand Lodge of Texas A.F. and A.M. He enjoyed being a mason, with the teaching and involvement in masonry.
Roy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; son Chris Tackel and wife Tish; daughters Pam Worlow and husband Gary, and Kathi Hodgkins and husband Don; sisters Lou Etta Armstrong, Audrey Russell and Dean Beaty; grandchildren Derek Worlow, Shelly Moody, Todd Worlow, Kristy Green, Cade Hodgkins, Donny Hodgkins, and Chase Worlow; and six great-grandchildren, the joy of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers William Tackel, Glen Tackel and Ray Tackel; sister Ann Caruthers; grandson Dustin Hodgkins; and granddaughter Jennifer LeeAnn Worlow.
