Robert “Pistol” Lee Stanfield of Bridgeport passed away February 23, 2021 in Decatur, Texas at the age of 71.
Graveside service will be at 10:00 am Monday, March 1, 2021 at Wilson Prairie Cemetery, with Brother Ray Cook officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and friend, Leon Dethloff. An open visitation will be available from 9-5 Sunday, February 28 at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home, 1401 Halsell Street in Bridgeport.
Born on October 13, 1949, in Bridgeport, Texas, to J.Q. and Odetta (Grote) Stanfield, Robert was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport and served in the U.S. Army. On April 4, 1987, Robert married Janice Richardson. Together, they raised three children and are blessed with nine grandsons who know him as “Papa”. Robert’s kids and grandkids were his pride and joy. Over the years, Robert and Janice enjoyed traveling with their cousins and close friends, hosting family gatherings and special occasions on their family farm in Bridgeport. Robert was also a lifelong member of Carpenter Street Church of Christ in Bridgeport.
Robert spent most of his career at Heidelberg Lehigh Hanson where he retired at the age of 62, although he was most passionate about his cattle, hay, and farm business.
Robert was largely known by his nickname “Pistol”, his infectious laugh, his love for fishing (especially with his grandsons), the Texas Longhorns, Dodge pickup trucks, any kind of history, popcorn, smacking two pieces of gum, and his two loyal lap dogs, Luci and Snooki. He also enjoyed his morning visits with friends at the local donut shop. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and “Papa.”
Family that are blessed to share his life is his wife of 34 years, Janice (Richardson) Stanfield, his children, Jana Worley and husband Lee, Matt Jenkins and wife Toni, Chelsie Chaney and husband Brandon, brother Jerry Stanfield and wife Pam, his sister Patsy Pewitt, his nine grandsons, Kelan, Kutler, Kolson, Blane, Brock, Jace, Maxon, Koen, and Huck, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, J.Q. and Odetta Stanfield and sister, Dickie Lou Roberts.
