Richard Mitchum

Richard Mitchum, 91, of Bridgeport, Texas got his angel wings Tuesday, January 18, 2022. A graveside service will be 2:00 pm Friday, January 21 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur, Texas, officiated by Dr. Shawn Brewer. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, January 20 at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

He was born February 24, 1930 in Decatur, Texas to Hoyet and Kate (Sherman) Mitchum. Richard married Katherine Irene Rowe on February 18, 1952 and the couple celebrated almost 70 years together.

Richard retired from Mitchell/Devon Energy after 13 years in the oil and gas industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hoyet and Kate Mitchum, brothers Jim Caraway, Tommy Mitchum, sister Irene Lehmberg, and grandson Chad Potts.

He is survived by wife Irene Mitchum; daughters Debra Potts and husband Robbie, Brenda Begeman and husband Barry, and Shari Schaefer and husband Darrell; six grandchildren: Bryan Potts and wife Lindsay, Jonathan Potts and wife Sonia, Jeremy Begeman, Julie Drevecky and husband Cary, Nicole Singleton and husband Quinton, and Kenny Lanzalaco; seven great-grandchildren: Corbin Potts, Eli Smith, Allie Begeman, Mikayla Drevecky, Makenzie Drevecky, Q.J. Singleton, and Peyton Singleton.

Richard loved his family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye, besides his lovely wife.

He also loved being out in the great outdoors to fish and watch his animals come to eat off the land. He would put out food so they could eat.

Richard not only raised his family but helped raise the children of his sister. He didn’t know a stranger, and would carry on a conversation with anyone that crossed into his path.
