Richard Guzman

Memorial services for Richard Guzman, 84, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be held at a later date.

Richard Guzman, known affectionately to many as the horseman, has left behind a legacy filled with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Born June 6, 1939, in Houston, Texas, to Gregorio Guzman and Natividad Soto Espinosa, Richard's journey on this earth came to a peaceful end on March 14, 2024.

Throughout his life, Richard touched the hearts of all who knew him. His love of spending summer days by the river fishing was legendary, creating moments that will be forever remembered. Richard’s dear friend JD described him as the toughest person he knew, likening him to leather and barbwire – a testament to Richard's resilience and strength of character.

A kind, caring, and loving soul, Richard was truly adored by everyone fortunate enough to cross paths with him. His infectious personality lit up every room he entered, leaving a lasting impression on all whom he met.

In his leisure time, Richard found joy in playing the accordion, singing, and listening to good music. Whether it was a trip to the casino, a day spent fishing, or simply being surrounded by his friends and family, Richard's hobbies and interests reflected his vibrant spirit and passion for life.

Richard will be deeply missed by his surviving family members and friends, who will forever hold onto the precious memories they shared with him. Though he may no longer be physically present, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Those left to cherish Richard’s memory are his son Casey Guzman of Watauga; brothers Simon Guzman of Bridgeport and Andy Espinosa; sisters Angelina Hurtado of Oregon, Alice Trevino and husband Manuel of Boyd, Ofelia Martinez and husband Joe of Bridgeport, Mary Win of Fort Worth, Theressa Hernandez of Fort Worth, Candy Espinosa of California; numerous nieces and nephews; his loyal dog Angel; and a host of extended family and friends.

Richard is preceded in death by his father Gregorio Guzman; mother Natividad Soto Espinosa and stepfather Andrew Espinosa; brothers Luis and Johnny Espinosa; sister Rosa Sanchez; niece Reneà Martinez; nephews James and Robert Hurtado; and great-nephew Christian Garcia.
