Norris Devawn Cheves returned to his Lord Tuesday, April 19, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Willow Point, Texas on September 25, 1926, he lived most of his life in Bridgeport and Fort Worth, Texas.
Norris is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce Armes Cheves of Bridgeport; daughters Kay Cheves Walker and husband George of Cedar Hill, Texas; Cindy Cheves Meyers and husband Fred of Bridgeport, Texas; and Marsha Cheves Scroggins and husband Mike of Fort Worth; sister Donilla Cheves Cox of Chico, Texas; and sister-in-law Marye Nella Armes of Decatur, Texas.
He is the grandfather of Matt Meyers and wife Laurie, Meredith Meyers Coffman and husband Jody, Sunni Scroggins Roppolo and husband Nick, Lauren Scroggins Shaw and husband Brian, Eli Walker and Kelly, John Walker and wife Crystal, Christin Scroggins Sawyer and husband Robert, and Michael Scroggins, Jr; as well as seven great-grandchildren: Joe and Jacob Roppolo, Bransen and Colt Meyers, Averie, Jace, and Jack Coffman.
Norris was preceded in death by his mother, Iva Elizabeth Nimmo Cheves Dumas; mother and father-in-law Vera and Chester Armes; and brothers-in-law Jimmie G. Armes and John Q. Cox.
Norris served his country in the Army and retired from Bell Helicopter after 35 years of service. He was a skilled craftsman who took pride in all that he did. He loved cars, motorcycles, woodworking, golf, and books. He was a dedicated husband and father to his family.
Memorial service is Sunday, April 24, at 2:00 pm at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Texas.
