Nevesta Jones

Betty Nevesta Jones, 85, longtime resident of Bridgeport, Texas, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 at home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, November 29 at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, officiated by Pastor Rick Davis. Burial will follow in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Pallbearers are Josh Johnston, Nathan Robinson, Bouie Stewart, Colin Jones, Craig Barrett, and Edgar Judd. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 28 from 6-8 pm at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Nevesta was born August 12, 1933 in Boonsville, Texas to Drew and Evelene (Womack) Grantham. She graduated from Bridgeport High School. She married Carl Ray Jones July 31, 1951 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was the owner of Granny’s Antiques in downtown Bridgeport for many years. Nevesta was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Historical Society.

Nevesta had an easygoing, and somewhat whimsical, nature. Even her hours of operation at Granny’s Antiques could be found in a framed sign in her storefront window, which read, “Open when I get here. Closed when I get tired.”

Nevesta is survived by sons S. Mike Jones and wife Joanna of Paradise, Texas, and Kevin R. Jones and wife Sherri of Paradise; grandchildren Stephanie Hartsell of Bridgeport, Lesley Johnston of Norman, Oklahoma, Hillary Robinson of Paradise, Emilie Stewart of Aubrey, Texas, Colin Jones of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Bailey Jones of Denton, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl Ray Jones, brother Jessie Grantham, and sister Bessie Barrett.
