Mary Elizabeth Rutherford

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Rutherford, 95, of Decatur, will be Wednesday, April 28, at 10:00 am, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home with burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur.   Visitation will be Tuesday, April 27, from 6 – 8 pm also at the funeral home.   Mary went home to be with her Lord on April 23, 2021 in Decatur. 

Mary was born to Charles Phillip Smith & Rosa Lee McDonald on June 7, 1925, in Alvord, Texas.  She married Billy Moore Rutherford in Decatur on November 4, 1944.  They had a happy life together until he was called home May 25, 1999.  Mary was a homemaker and loved taking care of her home.  She loved to read and was an artist who loved to paint. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends.  One of her many loves was her dog, Bo.  Mary was a second mother to the “Hens” and they held a very special place in her heart.  The “Hens” are Merrilee’s friends who hung out together for years. The “Hens” include, Darlena Hoyl, Neysa Harris, Becky Taylor, Marie Jones, Renee Barlow, Pam Northcutt, Judy Smith, & Ashley Gonzales.     

Those left behind to cherish her memory are daughter; Merrilee Morris and husband Billie; daughter in law, Paula Rutherford; granddaughters, Natasha Gibson & husband Kirk, Katie Hughes & husband Aaron, Paula Beth Toller & husband Michael; grandson, Kaleb Rutherford and wife Emily; great grandchildren, Kambree, Chloe, Lucy, Gabriel, Annie, Evangeline, Kase, Karson, Kennan, and Karter; and a host of family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Billy Kent Rutherford; brothers, Johnny, Bob, Clyde, Charles Phillip “Chock” Smith; and great granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth.
