Funeral services for Addie Marie (Payne) New, 92, of Bridgeport, Texas will be 10:00 am Thursday, November 8, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport, officiated by Rev. James Ramsawh. Burial will follow in Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas. Pallbearers are Ben Cervantes, Larry Miller, Fred Meyers, Shandon Fullingim, Danny Schumann, and John Curry, and honorary pallbearer David Terjal. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Wednesday, November 7 at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Marie passed away Monday, November 5 in Bridgeport.

Marie was born September 2, 1926 in Rosston, Texas in Cooke County to Sam Houston and Minnie Lee (Gentry) Payne. She married husband Bob Lester New in Austin in 1940. Before moving to Wise County in 1974 she lived in Victoria, Texas. She was a bookkeeper for most of her adult life, working 22 years at First Victoria National Bank, as well as bookkeeping in Bridgeport.

She had been a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1976. She was moderator of the women of the church, and also served terms as Elder & Trustee at the church. In addition, she was editor of the church newsletter, life member of Presbyterian Women, founder and charter member of Kraz-z Quilting Club with over 20 years of making quilts for the community.

Marie was small in stature but overflowing with energy and a zeal for life. In addition to making beautiful quilts, she was also an excellent cook and could often be seen delivering her famous pinwheel cookies to various groups, always wearing her signature, and usually handmade, hats.

She is survived by one son, Dwight Lester New of Bridgeport, grandchildren Kayte New of San Antonio, Texas, and Ben Hart-Serrano, sister Dr. Lou Fink of Dripping Springs, Texas, a niece and nephew, and other family and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Bob of 61 years and five months.
