Dorothy Marie Hastings, 83 years of age, of Chico, Texas passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family. Services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 17 at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Texas, officiated by Pastor Donald McMaster of New Beginnings Church in Chico. A short graveside service and interment will immediately follow at the Chico Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Hastings, Alexander Hastings, Kyle Hastings, Michael Hastings, Don Gardner, and Adrian Rueda.
Marie was born November 17, 1928 in Waxahachie, Texas as the oldest child of Elijah Burns and Estella Mae Hickey. After World War II, she met Harold Hastings in Haney's Drug Store in Roscoe, Texas and the couple married on December 23,1945.
During their life together, Marie and Harold owned and operated Hastings Floor and Paint Company in Hurst, Texas during the 1950s and into the 1970s. While in Hurst, she was an active participant in the school PTA and Lions Club, among other organizations.
After retiring from their business in Hurst, she followed Harold to the Lake Bridgeport area where they owned and operated the El Chico Lodge Restaurant at Wise County Park for many years. While there, she was widely known for her homemade pies.
Marie was a member of the Church of Christ in Chico. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Audrey Harold Hastings of Chico, and sister Della Jane Armstrong of Smithfield, Texas.
She is survived by sons John Harold Hastings and wife Lois, Danny Ray Hastings and wife Sheila; grandchildren Justin Ray Hastings and wife Shelly, Alex Heath Hastings and wife Tammy, Kyle Wayne Hastings and wife Darla, and Sabrina Kathleen Hastings-Rueda and husband Adrian, and Michael Aaron Hastings; 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Surviving siblings include Jewell Nitzche of Payson, Arizona, Charles Burns of Rhome, Texas, Jean Ellis of Sedona, Arizona, Sarah Wright of Niederwald, Texas, Thomas Burns of Chico, Texas, Jarvis Admire of Azle, Texas and Cathey Aaron of West Virginia.
