Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery in Bridgeport. Rosary and visitation will be 6-8 pm Monday, December 14 at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Maria passed away Tuesday, December 8 in Decatur.
She was born January 6, 1933 in La Pastoria, Zac. Mexico to Guadalupe and Monica (Frutos) Ruvalcaba.
Maria married at age 14 and was widowed at the young age of 35 and raised five children on her own, with the youngest being only three years old. She learned quickly how to make a living off the farm and soon became adept at all her endeavors.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking. She was also a farmer/rancher and much preferred being outside, whether herding and milking cattle, gathering eggs from her brood of chickens, or feeding the pigs.
She had oxen to help during planting season, and produced a good harvest year after year. She was known in her community for producing fresh queso.
She was a generous sort and always thinking of who might be in need of a fresh, hot meal, and could often be seen making these deliveries.
As grandchildren came along, they followed her every move, learning life on the farm. They, like their grandmother, learned how to milk, gather the eggs, feed the pigs, and work alongside Maria during the vegetable harvest season.
Maria leaves behind children Irene Carrillo and husband Guadalupe of California, Luis Gonzalez and wife Primitiva of Mexico, Urbano Gonzalez and wife Ramona of Bridgeport, and Alfredo Gonzalez and wife Maria of Bridgeport; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tomas Gonzalez; and children Cristino and Silvia Gonzalez.

México a Guadalupe y Monica (Frutos) Ruvalcaba.
