Joyce Alyeen Armes Cheves returned to her Lord Thursday June 2, 2016, after a life well lived with and for her family. Born in Boonsville, Texas, on December 25, 1927, she lived most of her life in Bridgeport and Fort Worth, Texas.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Norris Devawn Cheves. She is survived by three daughters, Kay Cheves Walker and husband, George, of Cedar Hill, Texas; Cindy Cheves Meyers and husband, Fred, of Bridgeport, Texas; and Marsha Cheves Scroggins and husband, Mike, of Fort Worth, Texas; sister-in-law Donilla Cheves Cox of Chico, Texas, and sister-in-law, Marye Nella Armes of Decatur, Texas. She is the grandmother of Matt Meyers and wife, Laurie; Meredith Meyers Coffman and husband, Jody; Sunni Scroggins Roppolo and husband, Nick; Lauren Scroggins Shaw and husband, Brian; Eli Walker and Kelly; John Walker and wife, Crystal; Christin Scroggins Sawyer and husband, Robert; and Michael Scroggins Jr., as well as seven great grandchildren: Joe and Jacob Roppolo; Bransen and Colt Meyers; Averie, Jace, and Jack Coffman.
Joyce also was preceded in death by her parents Vera and Chester Armes; brother, Jimmie G. Armes; mother-in-law, Iva Elizabeth Nimmo Cheves Dumas; and brother-in-law, John Q. Cox.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family. She worked in banking and retail as well, and also was owner of Joyce’s fashion shop in Bridgeport for over 20 years.
A memorial service will be Sunday, June 12 at 2:00 pm at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
