Funeral services for Johnny Chilton, 80, of Chico, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Alvord, Texas, with burial to follow at Thomas Cemetery in Bridgeport. Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, two hours prior to the service, at the church. Pastor Bill Cleveland and Dawayne Barnett will officiate.
Pallbearers will include Butch Baker, Rusty Hand, Jerry Stanfield, Seth Woods, Garrett Woods, and Tommy Winn; and Honorary Pallbearers Kenneth Buckner, Jim Hand, and Lonnie Hobbs.
Johnny was born December 15, 1943, in Bridgeport, Texas, to George Alexander (Sandy) and Blanche Beatrice (Winn) Chilton, and went to be with our Lord and Savior June 26, 2024, in Chico, Texas. He married Doris Jane Greer on June 14, 1963, in Chico, Texas, and was happily married for 41 years, until her passing in 2010. Johnny will be remembered for his inquisitive nature and his gift for storytelling. He had a knack for asking thought-provoking questions and weaving tales that will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of listening to him.
Johnny found solace and community at the First Baptist Church of Alvord, where he was an active member. In addition to his church involvement, he found joy tending to his garden, staying active through walks and exercise, and most of all, spending quality time with his beloved grandchildren.
Those left to cherish Johnny’s memory are his daughter, Delana LeeAnn (Chilton) Barnett and husband Keith; brother, Danny Joe Chilton; sister-in-law, Goldie Chilton; niece, Angi Chilton; grandchildren, Timothy Seth Woods, John Garrett Woods and wife, Victoria; step-grandsons, Craig Barnett and wife, Janssen, and family, and Aaron Barnett and family; great-grandchildren, Cambree Shea Woods, Vivianne Rae Woods, and Annie Jane Woods; and a host of family and friends.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Jane Chilton; and brother, Buddy Jack Chilton.
