Services for Janice Vanek, 73, of Vernon, Texas, will be 3:30 PM Sunday, September 19, 2021, at West Bridgeport Cemetery, with Rev. Curt Rutledge officiating. Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
Janice Vivian Vanek was born September 5, 1948, in Floydada, Texas. She was the daughter of Rev. Gilbert Henry and Anna Sue (Moore) Rhine. Janice grew up and attended school in Floydada, later graduating from Floydada High School. Soon after high school, Janice moved to Jacksboro, where she remained a short time before moving to Vernon, Texas, in the early 1970s. Janice was a stay-at-home mom for her two daughters Natasha and Chelsie. She later gained employment at the North Texas State Hospital, where she has worked for the past 15 years as a housekeeper.
Janice loved being with her family and children. She also loved spending time playing the piano. Janice played for her family every Christmas, and her kids would loath in the sound that their mother would play. Natasha's favorite song her mother would play was "The Little Drummer Boy." She could play like no one else and never needed a microphone for everyone to hear. Janice was a stickler on making sure her children attended church every Sunday, making sure they knew their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Janice was always proud of her children. She commented that there are two things worth going into debt for "education and a home." Traveling was also something that Janice liked to do. It would usually revolve around shopping and finding the best Mexican food around. She would always ask for the hottest hot sauce available. Janice was also a pepper connoisseur looking for the hottest peppers out there. Janice is described as a person that loved the Lord, having a heart of gold, and very bold and courageous. Janice has been a long-time member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Vernon, Texas.
Survivors include her two daughters Natasha Arnold and her husband, Duke of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Chelsie Vanek of Fort Smith, Arkansas; four grandchildren Logan, Hannah, Hayden, and Dakota Arnold and a host of other relatives and friends. Janice was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Gilbert Rhine, in 1988, brother Gary Michael Rhine in 2003, and her mother Annie Rhine in 2014.
