James “Big Jim” Garfield Thompson, 77, of Alvord, went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2016. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Decatur Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Jim was born, October 8, 1938, to J.W. and Dessie Mae Thompson in Decatur, TX. He married Blanch Cushman on August 20, 1959; she preceded him in death on February 28, 1970. He married Rosie Moody McDaniel on December 13, 1978.
He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1955-1959. He worked for Wise County Public Works until he retired. Grandchildren were very important to Jim and he loved them dearly. He had a love of cooking and enjoyed reading cookbooks and looking at recipes. One of his greatest pleasures was the ability to make people laugh.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rosie; daughters, Jerri Thompson, Sherri Counts, Tish Wright; Sons, Jim Thompson, Jr. and Billy McDaniel; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; especially dear friends, Scott Craft, Kenneth Caldwell, David Souther, Tom Goode, John Norcross; and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeanette; and brother, Lee Wayne.
