James 'Big Jim' Thompson

James “Big Jim” Garfield Thompson, 77, of Alvord, went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2016. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Decatur Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Jim was born, October 8, 1938, to J.W. and Dessie Mae Thompson in Decatur, TX. He married Blanch Cushman on August 20, 1959; she preceded him in death on February 28, 1970. He married Rosie Moody McDaniel on December 13, 1978. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1955-1959. He worked for Wise County Public Works until he retired. Grandchildren were very important to Jim and he loved them dearly. He had a love of cooking and enjoyed reading cookbooks and looking at recipes. One of his greatest pleasures was the ability to make people laugh. Jim is survived by his wife, Rosie; daughters, Jerri Thompson, Sherri Counts, Tish Wright; Sons, Jim Thompson, Jr. and Billy McDaniel; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; especially dear friends, Scott Craft, Kenneth Caldwell, David Souther, Tom Goode, John Norcross; and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeanette; and brother, Lee Wayne.
