Services for J.W. (John) Collins, 87, of Chico will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico, officiated by Rev. Mike Miller. Burial will follow in Chico Cemetery. Pallbearers are Fred Warzwick, Fredrick Warzwick, Stewart Broadbent, Blake Broadbent, Kevin Wood and Barry Wood. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 6 from 6-8 pm at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. John passed away Sunday, October 4 in Decatur.
John was born April 24, 1928 in Alvord, Texas to Zack Lee and Velar Ellen (Anderson) Collins. John served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. A few years after he returned stateside, he married Lois Ogle in 1957, on his birthday, April 24. He spent 28 years with TXI at the Bridgeport plant in mobile maintenance.
He was affiliated with the VFW, American Legion, and SCV. He was also a member of the Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico. John loved to read. He was also a lifelong Democrat.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Collins of Chico; daughters Annet Warzwick and husband Fred of Denton, and Teresa Broadbent and husband Stewart of The Colony; grandchildren Fredrick Warzwick, Blake Broadbent, and Katy Broadbent; brother F.M. Collins of Decatur; and sister Viola Beggs of Wichita Falls, Texas.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
