Gwenell Jones

A Celebration of Life service for Mollie Gwenell Jones, 77, of Aurora, will be Sunday, May 22, at 3:00 pm at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 2:00 pm.  Burial will follow at Bolivar Cemetery in Sanger. Gwen went peacefully to be with her Lord on May 17, 2022, in Decatur.

Gwen was born May 9, 1945, in Olney, TX, to Howard and Gwendolene Peacock. She married John "Punkin" Jones in Odessa, TX, in 1964 and the two spent many happy years together until he passed away in 2004.

Gwen was a retired insurance agent. She also loved playing games and was an outstanding 42 player, an avid card player and, in her later years, she dominated Bingo.  But it was being with her friends and family that brought her the most joy.

Gwen was known for her kindness and genuine love of others. The greatest beneficiaries of her love were her children. Gwen played an active role in their lives by serving as a Cub Scout den mother, PTA officer, Girl Scout troop mother, and Little League Mom. Gwen took part in selling hundreds of Girl Scout cookies, Boy Scout Exposition tickets, and she never missed any event, play, or game her children participated in.

Gwen was a preacher's kid and continued to be active in church throughout her life. She grew up singing a cappella and was known to have a beautiful alto voice. Gwen's musical talents were passed on to her granddaughters, April and Faith Abigail. Gwen's youngest granddaughter, Sloane, inherited her quick wit, compassionate heart, and an enduring love for the "Golden Girls."

Gwen was an excellent wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed.

 Gwen is survived by son Clifton Jones and wife Traci, of Leonard; daughter, Shelley Seagler and husband Joe, of Aurora; granddaughters April Gunn and husband Ben, Faith Abigail Jones and fiance' Dalton Tonubee, and Sloane Seagler; sister Thelma Box; in-laws Cliffa Hogue and Paula Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gwen is preceded in death by her loving husband John; parents Howard and Gwendolene Peacock; in-laws Clifton "Big Clif" and Joyce Jones; sister Elma Nunley; nephew Todd Box; and niece Lisa Taylor.
