Eva Johnson

On November 27, 2024, we lost a Mother. Eva Nell Johnson, wife of the late Roger Johnson, passed quickly and painlessly after a short illness. She was born on February 12, 1940, in Raymondville, TX. She was residing in Forestburg, TX, at the time of her passing. She graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1958.

Eva Johnson was perfectly imperfect, and her life was gloriously messy. She was a complicated woman who faced many hardships and after putting in time and effort, she picked herself up and achieved so much all on her own. Even with all her struggles, she did her best to help others and hold everyone together.

Her house was always packed with fur babies, children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren. Her home was never quiet, always roaring with laughter late into the night. In her home, there was no such thing as an empty stomach. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren remember delicious but impractically huge meals together, playing with a house full of cats and dogs (and even the occasional pack of kittens in the backyard), late-night hectic Easter egg painting sessions, her delightfully firm hugs and soggy kisses, packed car rides with dogs to the farm, trying to sneak treats past Grandma and almost always failing.

Eva Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Raul Garza and Deborah Romines Garza; her siblings Cletta Jean Garza Adams and Laurencio Roberto “Bobby” Garza; and her late husband, Roger Johnson. She is survived by siblings T. Albert Garza and Kathy Garza Kimball.

She was the mother of Lianne Massey, married to Douglas Massey, and Xavier “Bubba” Morón, married to Katie Morón. She was Grandmother to Brandon Trejo and his wife Crystal Trejo, Bryan Morón and his wife Allyson Morón, Nikki Black and her husband Austin Black, Shelby Morón, Peter Massey, Jamie Massey, and Calvin and Brooke Morón. She was Great Grandmother to Brandon and Kaitlyn Trejo, Tristan and Charlie Morón, Jade and Harper Black, Echo Morón, Esmeralda Carranza, and Leah and Jordyn Morales.

Grandma Eva taught us to be kind, to love, to give, and, above all else, to take care of each other.

Her family will be spreading her and her late husband’s ashes alongside her fur babies at their home in Forestburg.
