Funeral services for Eston O. Poland, 92, of Fort Worth, Texas will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 11:00 am at Southwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth, officiated by Bro. Les Doyle. Visitation will also be at the church, prior to the service, from 9-11 am. Burial will be at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas at 2:15 pm. A visitation is also planned in Bridgeport at Jones Family Funeral Home on Monday, October 14 from 6-8 pm.
Eston was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to William Columbus and Lillian Ethel (Talley) Poland. Upon completion of high school, he attended Draughon Business College. He also served his country in World War II as a Master Sergeant in the US Army. Eston was a Mason, and also worked 20 years in commissioned sales for J.C. Penney.
After retirement, Eston could often be found at local establishments drinking coffee with his friends. One restaurant was referred to as the Romeo Club because the group of men that sat together, which included Eston, were senior widows or singles.
In his younger years he played the violin. He liked music and enjoyed singing. He was a member of Southwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
He is survived by sons Dee Poland of Amarillo, Fred Poland of Graham, and Sid Poland of Arlington; daughter Helen Taylor of Chico; and step-son Gary Standfield of Ames, Iowa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob and J.B. Poland, sister Mary, grandson Eston Denver, great-granddaughter Heather, and great-great-granddaughter Addison.
