Emodine Boydston, 90, of Decatur, went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2017. She passed away at her home surrounded by family. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 20, at 10:00 AM, at Cornerstone Baptist Church with burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 19, from 6-8 PM at Jones Family Funeral Home-Decatur.
She was born on June 11, 1927 to Clyde and Christine Rawle Spain in Decatur. She married Waymon Atkins on January 15, 1946 and they had three children, John David, Gaylon Lynn, and Janice Kay. Waymon was tragically killed in a car accident on April 25, 1967. Emodine married Raymond Boydston on September 16, 1975.
Emodine loved working in her yard and garden. She was an accomplished seamstress and created beautiful things with her sewing. Her family meant everything to her and she loved having them around. She was an excellent cook and known far and wide for her famous banana pudding. Emodine was a lifelong member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and actively involved serving in various ministries throughout the years. She always had a warm hug for everyone, a glowing smile, and a twinkle in her eye.
She is survived by sons, Gaylon Atkins & wife Mary Jane of DeLeon, Wayne Boydston & wife Gay of Joshua; daughters, Janice McCandless & husband Darrell of Decatur, Beverly Gutierrez of Fort Worth; granddaughters, Christy Jo Patton & husband Danny of Shiner, TX, Rain Genthner & husband Scott of Lantana, TX, Malia Gutierrez of Beaumont, Amy Vann & husband Mark of Fort Worth; grandsons, Carl Atkins & wife Sheila of Haslet, Chet Atkins of Saginaw, Burt Atkins & wife Jordan of Deleon, Camron McCandless & wife Kayla of Decatur, Frank Gutierrez of Kirbyville, TX, Kip Boydston & wife Theresa of Burleson; great-grandchildren, Keaton, Kass & Kileigh Vann, Dalton Patton, Cal & Jade Genthner, Blayze, Jerney, Ridge & Trale McCandless, Audry, Emily, Cole & Mallory Atkins, Zoe & Zachary Boydston, Reba & Kellar Atkins, Lili, Austin, & Logan Gutierrez; sister, Idnel Stone of Decatur; brothers, Clyde Spain Jr. and wife Mavis of Decatur, Don Spain and wife Dean of Decatur, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
Emodine was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde & Christine Spain; husband Waymon Atkins, husband Raymond Boydston; son, John David Atkins; sisters, Leona Burk, Alma Maxey; and brother, Warren Spain.
