Doris (Stokes) Green

Graveside services for Doris (Stokes) Green, 90, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Thomas Cemetery in Bridgeport. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Brother Gary Demmitt will officiate.

Pallbearers will include Ben Lopez, Billy Cross, Jason Stansell, Josh Black, Bryson Cross, and Raiden Lopez; Honorary Pallbearers will include Terry Carlton, Cooper Black, Luke Stansell, Parker Calloway, Jadon Maddux, and Larry Green.

Doris Laphine (Stokes) Green was born on December 28, 1934, to Morris and Augie (Gober) Stokes in Bridgeport, Texas, and passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, surrounded by her family, in Decatur, Texas. 

Doris, a proud graduate of Bridgeport High School, Class of 1953, dedicated much of her professional life to working as an administrative assistant, primarily for Dr. Huddleston’s clinic in Bridgeport, a role she held with grace and commitment until her well-deserved retirement.

Known for her stubbornness, Doris took pride in her strong will, a quality that served her well throughout her journey. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and shared countless memories with her beloved husband, Donnie Green, until his passing. Together, they raised three knot-headed boys in Bridgeport, a testament to their strong partnership and the loving home they created.

In her free time, Doris enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds and tending to her garden. She loved to travel the road with friends, where numerous incredible stories – some best left untold – were created. Many fond memories were also made playing golf with her late husband, whom she missed dearly following his departure.

Doris leaves behind a legacy of love, determination, and a joyful spirit that touched the lives of everyone around her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Donnie Green; parents, Morris and Augie Stokes; son, Tony Green; daughter-in-law, Jana Green; and brothers, J.R., Earl, and Mickey Stokes.

Those left to cherish Doris’ memory are her sons, Tim Green and Harriet Garrison, and Jeff Green and wife Stella; granddaughters, Kristi Lopez and husband Ben, Kacie Cross and husband Billy, all of Bridgeport, Sara Stansell and husband Jason of Hurst, and Emily Black and husband Josh of Alvord; brother, Mike Stokes and wife Judy of Garrison; sister, Judy Carlton and husband Terry of Bridgeport; great-grandchildren Mackenzie and Raiden Lopez, Bryson and Karlee Cross, Luke Stansell, Harleigh, Cooper, and Matty Black; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends.
