Donald R. Burgin, 68, of Bridgeport died suddenly Friday, May 6, 2016 while vacationing in Gunnison, Colorado. A memorial service will be Saturday, May 14 at 2:00 pm at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Visitation will be Friday, May 13 from 6-8 pm, also at Jones.
Don was born May 31, 1947 to S.H. and Frances (Pugh) Burgin in Gladewater, Texas. He married Virginia Martinez on January 30, 1970.
He was a Bridgeport High School graduate of the class of 1965 and a graduate of UT Arlington with a Bachelor’s degree.
Don proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, 1966-1969, with a tour in Vietnam.
He was employed at Chico Crushed Stone, LaFarge, and owner of the car washes in Bridgeport for 30 years.
He was one of the original organizers of the Wise County Toy Run, and was actively involved for the first ten years.
Don considered Colorado his second home. He enjoyed the scenery, looking for wildlife, fly fishing, jeeping, and the campfires at night.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Virginia Burgin of Bridgeport; his son Michael Burgin and fiancé Nichole Broussard of Youngsville, Louisiana; daughter Rachel Sims and husband Terrell of La Vernia, Texas; and grandchildren Shelby Burgin, Mason Sims, Reed Burgin, and Marshall Sims.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Kathy Potteiger.
