Memorial services for David Pewitt, 69, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be held at 3 pm Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Texas. Pastor Joey Vick will officiate. David passed away peacefully on April 26, 2023, in Decatur, Texas.
David was born May 2, 1953, in Denver, Colorado, to Olan and Muriel (McKown) Pewitt. He married Sherry (Sneed) Pewitt on August 12, 1971, in Bridgeport, Texas, and was happily married for 51 years. David is perhaps best known for being the former co-owner of Pewitt’s Auto Repair, in Bridgeport, for over two decades. He then later served as the transportation director for Bridgeport ISD for 23 years, until his retirement in 2015. David enjoyed working on cars, woodworking, and collecting knives. The only thing he enjoyed more than his hobbies was spending time with his family. David will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; son Steven Pewitt and wife Robyn; daughters Tonja Brown and husband Eric, and Laura French and husband Bill; brothers Jimmy, Jerry, Paul, and Earnie Pewitt; sisters Kathy Pelham, Mary Archer, and La Juana Gibbs; and grandchildren Kalyb and Zane Brown, Piper and River French, Michael and Nicole Patterson, Katie Pewitt, Hannah and Jake Stewart, and Bailey and Bailey French.
David is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather John Robinson; in-laws Vernon Sneed and wife Edna; brother Olan Pewitt and his wife Eunice; and sisters-in-law Gladys and Yvonne Pewitt.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org.
