Funeral services for David Charles ‘DJ’ Jones, 67, of Jacksboro, Texas, will be 1 pm Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, officiated by pastors Lance Spradlin and Bill Walles. Visitation will be held at 12 pm, one hour prior to the service. The next day, Sunday, August 4, friends and family will gather in David’s hometown of Benjamin, Texas, for a 2:30 pm service at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Truscott Cemetery, just outside of Benjamin.
He was born February 11, 1957 in Jacksboro, Texas, to Charles and Joy (Trainham) Jones. After graduation from Benjamin High School and a minor stint in college, David followed the oilfield business to Wise County, Texas, an area he called home most of his life. He passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, in Runaway Bay, Texas.
David worked in the oilfield for most of his adult life, in various capacities. When he wasn’t working, he loved to spend his time on the water, usually on Lake Bridgeport and Possum Kingdom Lake.
He was an avid scuba diver and was often called on to retrieve various items from the lake floor, such as sunglasses, keys, phones, wallets and even the occasional sunken boat. He also enjoyed diving trips to Belize and Bonaire, where the beautiful, clear blue waters called him to visit again and again.
He also operated a shop in Runaway Bay where he worked on engines of all types: boats, jet skis and even automobiles. David was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix just about anything. He also made countless fiberglass repairs and did a great deal of painting. Whenever someone reached out in need, you could count on DJ to be there to lend a very qualified hand.
David leaves behind wife Wendy (Stout) Jones of Jacksboro; daughters Jessica Payne of Cottondale, Texas, Kayla Lopez of Lake Bridgeport, and Audra and Sean Cason of Jack County, Texas; son Rex Weber; parents Charles and Joy Jones of Benjamin; sister Sheila De Los Santos of Vernon, Texas; grandchildren Liam, Damien, and Nevan Lopez, Dalton Jackson, Adrian and Xander Briley, Reagan Weber, and Amber Cason; cousins Larry Hertel, Tim Hertel and wife Ann; numerous nieces and nephews; and longtime compadre Kay Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Esmall De Los Santos.
