Carol Thornton

Funeral services for Carol Dean Thornton, 79, of Paradise, Texas, will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Paradise, Texas, with burial to follow at Paradise Cemetery. Visitation will be at 1 pm, one hour prior to the service, at the church. Dr. Shawn Brewer, Pastor Tim Jenkins, and Gerre Joiner will officiate. Carol went peacefully to her eternal resting place May 6, 2023, in Bridgeport, Texas.

Pallbearers will include Blake Lindsey, Ty Lambert, Clinton Lane, Blane Miller, Chad Layton, Robby Miller, Bryce Miller and JJ French.

 Carol was born July 9, 1943, in Houston, Texas, to E.J. and Sadie (Hurta) Hardin. She married Albert Thornton April 29, 1979, in Missouri City, Texas, and was happily married 44 years at the time of her passing. Carol was a graduate of Jesse H. Jones High School in Houston, Texas, and later attended Wharton County Junior College in Richmond, Texas. She worked as a secretary for Fort Bend County in its juvenile probation department and eventually retired after many years of faithful service. Carol was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Paradise and enjoyed cooking, driving fast cars, and visiting with everyone she met; she never met a stranger. Carol also had a passion for dance from a young age that lasted well into her adult years. She will be greatly missed and remembered with kindness and affection by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish Carol’s memory are her husband Albert Thornton; daughter Debra Lynn Wiley; stepdaughters Jodi Lindsey and husband Kennie, and Laurie Miller and husband Jimmy; brother Eddie Hardin and wife Karen; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents Frank and Frances Hurta, and Joe Pete and Stella Krolczyk, all of Houston, Texas.

The service will be livestreamed by the First Baptist Church of Paradise, Texas, on its Facebook page.
