Carol Pitkin Long
1940-2018
Carol Jean Pitkin Long, 78, beloved daughter, sister, wife, Mom, Grammy, Grammy-Great, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 in Justin, TX.
Carol was born February 12, 1940 in Logan, UT to Leonard Rex and Lucille Lucherini Pitkin. She grew up in Salt Lake City, UT, graduating from South High School. She married James Edward Long on May 6, 1961. She was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved her Savior, the Gospel, her family, and her music. She was a church organist from age 16 until her passing. Carol performed a lifetime of loving service to her family and friends. Carol and Jim moved often in their early married years, living in Portales, NM, Los Alamos, NM, and Las Vegas, NV, before moving to Carrollton, TX, in 1973, where they raised their four children. In 2002, Carol retired, and they moved to Justin, TX.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; children Kim (Wayne) Miller, Justin, TX; Debbie (Luke) Lands, Castle Pines, CO; Kevin ( Robyn) Long, Brentwood, TN; and Jeff (Jackie) Long, Haslet, TX; sisters, Linda (Bill) Hargis, West Jordan, UT, and Joyce Pitkin, Dallas, TX; sisters-in-law Lynne Pitkin, West Jordan, UT; Alice Eppers, Roswell, NM; Mary (Bob) Curtis, Las Cruces, NM; and Dorothy (Bill) Hellums, Roswell, NM; grandchildren Brad (Kristin) Miller, Fort Worth, TX; Sarah Miller, Fort Worth, TX; Danielle Lands (John Kuebler), Denver, CO; Audrey Lands, San Antonio, TX; Madison Lands, St. Louis, MO; Walker Lands, San Antonio, TX; Emily Long, Colorado Springs, CO, LDS Mission; Chris Long, Nashville, TN; and Colin Long, Haslet, TX; great-grandchild, Reagan Miller; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Gordon Pitkin, and Clyde Pitkin; and grandson Karl Andrew Long.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 500 W. Bonds Ranch Rd., Fort Worth, TX.
Visitations will be held at the same location, Friday, September 28, 2018 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 29 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m. at Thurmond-Fairview Cemetery, 969 FM 407, New Fairview, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Just for J, Inc. (www.justforj.com), LDS Philanthropies-Humanitarian Aid Fund (www.ldsphilanthropies.org), or a charity of your choice.
