Carlton Mann, 74, of Greenwood, Texas, formerly of Bridgeport, died April 21, 2012 in Plano, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Central Fellowship Church in Decatur. Dr. Bill Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Rusty Mann, Tim Mann, Craig Mann, Chuck Mann, Marcus Miliara, and Bill Thetford. Visitation will be at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport from 5:30 - 7:30 PM on Tuesday, April 24, 2012.
Carlton was born January 4, 1938 in Decatur, Texas to Mary (Carlton) and Frank Mann, who were dairy farmers in the Bluett community. Carlton, however, devoted his career to children. After receiving his Masters Degree from the University of North Texas, he was a school teacher for many years, and later became assistant superintendent at Bridgeport ISD before retiring after 41 years of service. He married Virginia Ann Pinkerton in Marietta, Oklahoma, on April 11, 1959. Carlton was a member of the Singing Oaks Church of Christ. He loved cattle ranching and the outdoors, and he loved his family very much. He served his country in the Army National Guard from 1956 to 1970.
He leaves behind his wife of 53 years; daughter Janet Gail Mann Armstrong and husband Neil of Bridgeport; son Brent Edward Mann of Greenwood; grandchildren Alyssa Diane Armstrong and Sage Cheyenne Mann; great-grandsons Pierce Charles Carman and Tate Ryan Lingo; brothers Burt Ellis Mann of Odessa, Texas and L.W. Mann of Alvord, Texas; sisters Christelle Mann Martin and Frankie Mann Miliara, both of Lewisville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Fidella Mann Gage.
