Bobbie Cassity Powell passed away on February 18, 2018 in Decatur, Texas at the age of 84 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Memorial service will be held Friday, February 23, at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Greatly loved, Bobbie will be missed by her husband, sisters, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, great-great-grandchildren and friends.
Bobbie was born on June 2, 1933 to Glenn and Leora Cassity in Decatur, Texas and spent most of her adult life living and working in Decatur. She was a treasure hunter and could spot a garage or estate sale sign from blocks away. She collected early 1900’s American Blue Mountain hand-painted pottery, Post War Japanese pottery and antique quilts. She had a green thumb and loved flowers and gardens. She was a music lover and quite the dancer.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Leora Cassity; sister, Jimmie Rhine; and daughter Hope Ivey. She is survived by her husband, W.L. Powell; daughters, Phyllis DeWitt-Ryland and husband Ray N. of Addison, Brenda Dyson and husband Tommy of Decatur; stepdaughter Tina Cox and husband Tracy of Dallas; sisters, Wanda Morrison of Decatur, Glenda Longmire of Decatur; brother-in- law Tommy Rhine of Decatur; grandchildren, Monty Griffeth and wife Jennifer, Paige Haynes and husband James, Brooke Gravely and Corey Mantooth, Steve Cox and wife Cecelia, Alicia Goad and husband Michael; great-grandchildren, Hannah Martin, Parker Griffeth, Nate Haynes, Ashely Gravely, Hunter Gravely, and Samuel Cox; great-great-grandchildren, Braxton Martin, Emily Martin, and Jordyn Mantooth; nieces and nephews, Cindy, Charlie Joe, Robin, Sherri, Norman, Donna, Kris and Misty.
Family requests donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or your choice of Hospice providers. We wish to thank all the Ardent Hospice staff for their excellent and compassionate care with special thanks to LaTanta for her tender actions. We also would like to thank the many RN’s, nurses, aides and staff at Decatur Medical Lodge for their care over the last 17 months.
