Betty Whetsell

A graveside service for Betty Whetsell, 86, of Sunset, Texas will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, July 10, 2014 in the Cumby Cemetery in Chico, Texas. Family members Cammy Boaz and Kim Dickinson will officiate, along with Bro. Tom Merritt. Betty passed away July 8 in Corinth, Texas. She was born October 28, 1927 in Lake Valley, Texas to Benjamin Franklin and Minta Virginia (Hunter) Dyer. Betty married Ferrell Wayne Whetsell on December 23, 1945 in Sunset. The couple had four children, all born in Bowie, Texas. Wayne and Betty were married 53 years, until his death August 22, 2000. Betty’s hobbies included sewing and quilting, but her greatest love was her family. Betty leaves behind son Gaylan Whetsell and wife Beverly of Decatur; daughters Beverly Wilkins of Wichita Falls, and Janet Terrell and husband Mitch of Sunset; daughter-in-law Darlene Whetsell; granddaughters Cammy Boaz and husband Chris of Roanoke, Texas, Stephanie Whetsell of Grapevine, Texas, Becky Lowrance and husband Clint of Chico, Angie Wilkins of Wichita Falls, and Kimberly Dickinson and Matt of Paint Rock, Texas; grandsons Jesse Wilkins and wife Denise of Sunset, Clay Whetsell and wife Sarah of Fort Worth, Texas, Brian Terrell of Abilene, Texas and Royce Terrell and fiancé Amber Fortenberry of Chico; great-granddaughters Emily Boaz, Katie Boaz, Shelby Dickinson, and Addison Lowrance; and great-grandson Carter Whetsell, Thomas Dickinson, and Layne West. She was preceded in death by her husband Ferrell Wayne Whetsell, and son Ferrell Dwayne Whetsell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Judes American Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association.
