Bettie Compton

Bettie Sue Compton, of Runaway Bay, Texas passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 in Bridgeport at the age of 92. A private service will be held at a later date. Bettie was born in Kenton, Tennessee to Bernie and Virginia (King) Kerr on July 27, 1923. Bettie was a high school graduate and attended a business college for two years. She married Roy Compton on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1944 in Zanesville, Ohio. They were married for 72 years. She was an avid baseball fan and followed not only the Texas Rangers, but the LA Angels and Chicago Cubs as well. She also loved to cook. She leaves behind her husband Roy Compton of Runaway Bay; sons Steve Craig Compton of Sanger, Texas, James King Compton of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jeffery Marvin Compton of New York City, New York; brother Arthur C. Kerr of Asheville, North Carolina; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Glenn Compton.
