Funeral services for Barbara Caudle, 87, of Bridgeport, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport, Texas, with a burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Jacksboro, Texas. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Ray Cook will officiate.

Pallbearers will include Jonathan Cortez, Kaiden Cortez, John Cortez, Patrick Smittle, Joe Martin, and Jim Davis.

Barbara Elnora Caudle was born on November 25, 1937, to Horace and Adah Grace McCoy in Graham, Texas. She was an avid reader and enjoyed helping her parents at their furniture store. She graduated high school from Jacksboro, Texas, in 1955 and then began her college career at Texas Tech University. Barbara married Roy Clay Caudle on August 24, 1957, at the home of her paternal grandparents in Graham. The couple began their married life in Jacksboro. Clay’s job then transferred them to Bridgeport. They chose the First United Methodist Church as their church home. Over the next few years, they were blessed with two daughters, Tammy and Carrie. Barbara graduated in 1967 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Speech Therapy from Texas Christian University. She started her teaching career as a speech therapist at Bridgeport ISD. In 1976, she earned a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Texas Woman’s University. She taught children with learning disabilities for the Paradise and Boyd school districts. After 12 years of teaching, she switched careers. She became the church secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport where she worked approximately 10 years. Upon retirement, she focused on her family and being the best wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Barbara will be cherished for her intelligence, her inner strength, her faith, and her love and devotion to her family.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Horace Wesley and Adah Grace McCoy, and a brother, Horace Wesley McCoy, Jr. 

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Roy Clay Caudle of Bridgeport; daughters, Tammy Cortez of Bridgeport and Carrie Martin and husband, Joe, of Springtown; grandson, Jonathan Cortez and wife, Michelle, of Bridgeport; granddaughters Kandace Cortez, and husband, Jim Davis, of Plano, Sarah Jo Smittle, and husband, Patrick, of Oklahoma, and Madison and Mackenzie Cortez, of Bridgeport; great-grandson Kaiden Cortez, of Bridgeport; great-granddaughters Carly Davis, of Plano, and Hadley Cortez, of Bridgeport; and a host of family, friends, and former students.
