Services for Althea Forbis, longtime resident of Decatur, will be Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur at 2:00 pm, officiated by Dr. Brian Bosworth and Rev. John Taylor. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Pallbearers are Russell Long, James Long, Evan Woodruff, Alex Forbis, Joel Forbis, Parker Carnahan, Cooper Carnahan, and Grayson Carnahan. Althea passed away Wednesday, October 21 at home at the age of 89. Visitation will be Friday, October 23 at Chancellor and Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur from 6-8 pm.
Althea was born August 1, 1926 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Neils and Anna (Goltermann) Nielsen. She was an avid bridge player, and was very involved in her community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Decatur, a founding member of Wise Health System Auxiliary, and an original member of Decatur Public Library Board, and a founding member of United Charities of Wise County.
She is survived by children: Dr. Thomas Long, Jana Long Woodruff, Chris Forbis, and Nancy Forbis Carnahan; brother Alan Nielsen; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Althea was preceded in death by husbands Emory Eugene Long, and James E. Forbis.
Memorials may be made to Wise Health System, Decatur Public Library, and the First United Methodist Church of Decatur.
